pentatrichomonas hominis Trichomonad trophozoite of cats; fecal-oral transmission. PPP= About 1 week. Dx: Flagellated trophozoites (10 µm long) in saline fecal preparation (destroyed typically by flotation media). Move with a jerking forward motion. Can often visualize an undulating membrane on one caught in debris. Habitat: Lumen of cecum and colon. Similar Species: Need to distinguish trophozoite from that of Giardia. Range: World. Clinical Signs: Seen in cats with diarrhea; probably not typically the cause. Potential Zoonosis: Could be directly transmissible from feces to human caregivers. Routine precautions should be taken when handling feline fecal matter. Tx: No approved drug. Metronidazole has been used;
