ABSTRACT

Anesthetic Machines Although veterinarians were using anesthetic machines for delivery of diethyl ether for small animals in the late 40’s and early 50’s, these were units that had been used for human patients with names like Ohio, Heidbrink, Foregger, and McKesson. Machines specifically designed for small animals were not introduced until methoxyflurane and halothane were approved for use in veterinary patients. Two names were most familiar in the early 60’s: Pitman-Moore and Fraser Sweatman. Later, Dupaco, Foregger, and North American Drager made their entrance into the veterinary market. At of the beginning of the 21st century, there were more than 15 different manufacturers of veterinary machines for small animals.
