ABSTRACT

Assume that there is a predator hunting for a prey. In general, the hunting consists of three main processes: the ›rst process is a search for a prey; the second is making a decision whether to terminate a search and start a chase for a prey or to omit the chase and continue searching; and the third process is a pursuit for the prey, if such decision was made. In the theory of optimal foraging, the studies are concentrated on the ›rst two processes (Stephens & Krebs, 1986).
