ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of interpreter intervention and then focuses on the issue of professional conduct for interpreters. The other two areas of linguistic transfer issues and nonlinguistic issues will be discussed in the following chapters in detail. The authors propose strategies to minimize unjustified interpreter intervention and highlight those aspects that can be monitored by the interviewer to maintain control and the quality of the interview, when it is conducted via a third party-the interpreter.
