ABSTRACT

The clamp-handling concept can be best understood with a simple demonstration. Position four small cartons, side by side, in a line, on a table. Place your hands flat against the sides of the outer two. Keep your hands flat while pressing steadily inward until all four cartons can be lifted without slippage. The heavier the cartons the greater the pressure needed, since the pressure applied by your hands transfers through the outside cartons to create the friction needed to hold the two in the middle in place.
