ABSTRACT

A 7-year-old boy of Greek parents gives a 4-day history of fever, sore throat and abdominal pain. He has passed dark urine. He has been taking amoxycillin suspension for 2 days. There is no relevant family history and he has had no similar attacks previously, though his mother reveals that he did have prolonged neonatal jaundice. On examination, he is clinically jaundiced and anaemic. Liver and spleen are not palpable. His full blood count shows
