ABSTRACT

An 18-year-old girl presents with an antepartum haemorrhage 20 weeks into her first pregnancy. She requires a blood transfusion. In her past history, she reports heavy bleeding after a tonsillectomy. She was returned to theatre for cauterisation to achieve haemostasis and required a post-operative blood transfusion. She has had no other procedures and reports normal menstrual blood loss. Her father similarly required blood transfusion after tonsillectomy and she believes that he received treatment during subsequent surgeries to prevent bleeding.
