ABSTRACT
A 22-year-old girl presents with a sudden onset of pain and swelling in her left leg that has been getting gradually worse over the previous 5 days. There is no significant past medical history or family history and her only medication is a combined oral contraceptive that she has been taking for 3 years. She has been smoking 10 cigarettes a day for 5 years.
