Safety: Cinchona alkaloids are acutely toxic. Benzyl chloride is a powerful lachrymator, is acutely toxic, and will cause skin irritation. N-benzylcinchonidinium chloride should be handled with care as it may cause skin and eye irritation. Acetone is a volatile, flammable solvent and will cause serious eye irritation.
