A P T E R 18 Education and Training in Radiation Protection Eliseo Van˜o Radiology Department, Medical School, Complutense University, Madrid, Spain

T he number of medical procedures using ionizing radiation isrising, and imaging procedures resulting in higher patient and staff dosesare being performed more frequently. The need for education and training of medical staff and other healthcare professionals in the principles of radiation protection (RP) is becoming even more necessary than in the past (ICRP 2009b). Medical physicists should have the highest levels of education and competence in RP, and need to be closely involved in the education and training programs on RP for other health professionals.
