T he concepts of “inherent dignity” and “equal and unalienable rightsof all members of the human family” resulted from the atrocities thatoccurred in World War II, and were formalized as part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. These concepts were the building blocks of what is now known as “informed consent.”
