ABSTRACT

Crises require proper preplanning and response. One of the best reasons for having a properly thought out, planned, vetted, and exercised plan is to avoid the “take charge herd mentality” most often exhibited by someone, often a senior member of management or a division head of engineering, operations, or any one of a number of functions. It is often someone who has “been there”—worked or lived in the country, or someone who simply feels empowered. He or she might not come right out and say “I AM IN CHARGE HERE!” but might just as well.
