ABSTRACT
Two incidents that have occurred in US history over the past 17 years probably best exemplify the successes and pitfalls of crisis management and contingency planning. These two events-the Y2K or the Year 2000 Computing Crisis, and the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center-are examples of what succeeds and why we still fail in preparing for the worst.
