ABSTRACT
Total world production of banana in 1998 was estimated at 5.7 x 1010 kg [4]. While most of the global banana production is for local consumption, bananas are the world’s second most important traded fruit after citrus and, along with rubber, cocoa, sugar and coffee, one of the five major tropical products entering into world trade [8].
