ABSTRACT

A few decades ago, the responses of people to re were not integrated into re protection design. When human behavior was considered, it was often limited to simple assumptions that were not always appropriate. For example, designers may have assumed that occupants of a building immediately began exiting upon hearing an alarm signal. However, information in the literature indicates that this frequently is not the case (Canter, 1985; Bryan, 1983; Wood, 1980).
