ABSTRACT

The Six Sigma process complements the Lean philosophy because it provides tools and strategies to solve specic problems that are identied along a company’s Lean journey: Lean philosophies reduce waste and seek to support standardization. Six Sigma focuses on project work on the identied variation from the proposed standard. Often it is seen to not entirely focus on the customer requirements; instead, it is envisioned as more of a costreduction exercise (Bendell 2005).
