ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview for treating patients in lowand middle-income countries (LMICs) who present with abdominal trauma. Management of specific organs is discussed.

History and physical exam are keys in the diagnosis and management of abdominal trauma. Attention to cultural context and language will facilitate an accurate history and physical examination. While a proper history and physical examination are needed, there are a number of important pitfalls to avoid when working in an LMIC.
