ABSTRACT
Now that we have developed the Riverside Plant fiber VSM, it can provide five useful and valuable functions:
1. Bringing a higher level of clarity on how the process is currently performing and why
2. Showing all the major wastes in the process 3. Highlighting areas where improvement should be made 4. Providing a roadmap for the implementation of Lean concepts to improve
flow and process performance 5. Providing a template for documenting the ideal future state and nearer term
steps toward the final future state
If the VSM did only the first of these, it would be well worth the time and effort that went into its creation. However, it can do so much more that it is a mistake to stop at that point.
