ABSTRACT

Most data box parameters, such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), can be calculated simply from what you know about that particular process step. However, parameters based on Takt, such as utilization and days of supply, can’t be calculated until Takt has been determined for each step. As was mentioned in Chapter 2, Takt can be different from step to step to make up for yield losses and because available time may be different for some steps. Therefore, Takt must be calculated on an integrated basis for the entire process, and we must start from the customer demand and build it backward into the process. This is the one aspect of a VSM where we must start with customer requirements and work back through the process flow.
