ABSTRACT
Inplottingtheresultsofturbomachinerytestsandintheanalysisof performancecharacteristics,itisusefultousedimensionlessgroupsof variables.Appropriategroupsofvariablesarefoundbyapplicationofa dimensionalmethodology(dimensionalanalysis),anditisknownfromthe Buckinghampitheoremthatthedimensionlessgroupssoformedhavea functionalrelationship,althoughthenatureoftherelationshipisfrequently unknownexceptbyexperimentation.Animportantbenefitofdimensional analysisisthattheresultsofmodelstudiessoanalyzedandplottedmaythen beusedtopredictfull-scaleperformance.Thisisimportanttoreducethe costofthedevelopmentofturbomachines.Itisalsousefultouseinthe analysisofdatafromfull-sizedmachines,whenitisdesiredtopredictthe performanceofotherfull-sizedmachinesofadifferentsizethanthose tested,ortooperateunderdifferentconditions.
