ABSTRACT

Cow’s milk is treated as a solid because it curdles when mixed with gastric secretions and forms a thick flocculate.

■➜ Tests of coagulation 2. B, D Warfarin inhibits the vitamin K dependent clotting factors II, VII, IX and X, which are part of the extrinisic pathway in the coagulation cascade. This is measured by the prothrombin time. Unfractionated heparin exerts its effects on the coagulation cascade by binding to and potentiating the action of antithrombin 3 (AT3). AT3 inhibits factors IIa (thrombin), Xa, and Xia, and its effects are measured by the activated partial thromboplastin time, or APTT.
