ABSTRACT

Up to now we have discussed factorial designs as a way of investigating a number of independent variables and how they affect a dependent variable. Recall that independent variables are referred to as factors and that the high (1) and low (−1) settings of a factor are called levels. When conducting a mixture experiment, we call the independent variables components or ingredients, and the levels for each ingredient are usually expressed as an amount or proportion of the total.
