ABSTRACT

Traditional chemotherapeutic agents do not discriminate between rapidly dividing normal cells and tumor cells. Here, a general discussion about the design of stimulus-responsive drug delivery, with special emphasis on the construction of redox-responsive, inorganic nanocarriers, based on the difference in extraand intracellular glutathione levels is provided. The widely employed biocompatible inorganic nanomaterials including silica nanoparticle-, iron oxide nanoparticle-, and gold nanoparticle-based nanoplatforms have been reviewed.
