ABSTRACT

It is well known that bioactive coatings are implanted in vivo. They must have good adhesion with the substrate. Otherwise, they may fail during inservice condition. This is an undesired situation because it would obviously require revision surgery. It is from this perspective that the macromechanical properties of a given bioactive ceramic coating, e.g., HAp coating, need to be thoroughly evaluated and analyzed in relation to its microstructure. This is exactly what we plan to do in this chapter.
