After World War II, Japan was democratized following the example of the American model. However, through the enactment of the fundamental law,* the national government was gradually restored and able to take the initiative in coping with important issues throughout the country. The first step was the Nuclear Fundamental Law in 1955, which was enacted to introduce American procedures for using nuclear substances for peace.
