ABSTRACT

As the existing power system has not evolved at the rate of increase in demand and power transmission complexities, compensation in the form of advanced power electronic devices like flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) is explored. Modern power systems suffer from poor stability margin, low efficiency and loadability limit. To exfoliate these abnormalities, by optimum utilization of existing FACTS devices and HVDC links, some flexible modeling and artificial neural network (ANN)-based training strategies have been developed to enable the independent system operator (ISO) to choose the most beneficial method of compensation. Different contingency sensitivity indices have also been personified to identify congestion and remove the same in pursuit of higher reliability and efficiency of the transmission network.
