ABSTRACT

Abstract: Characterizing coal reservoir is a critical part of gaining reservoir information for the development of a reservoir model. This chapter comprehensively reviews the techniques and/or methods used to characterize a coal reservoir with respect to the following three key parameters: coal porosity, coal permeability, and coalbed gas in place. The principle for each technique is explained with some specific examples; the strengths and limitations of each method are also provided in the context. It is expected that this chapter provides a useful introduction to coal reservoir characterization for all professionals working on this field, particularly the people in the industry.
