ABSTRACT
The distance-based models are often convenient first steps in modeling a set of rank data. They capture the main feature of the data with only one parameter, and provide a basis for further investigation. As discussed in Chapters 2 and 3, one has to decide on a distance and whether the modal ranking is known or to be estimated. Some consideration has to be given to the ease of implementation, especially for moderate or large numbers of objects.
