ABSTRACT
Cost management is a PMBOK ® Guide Knowledge Area that many project managers have only experienced in preparation for the PMP exam. There are a number of reasons given for this, none particularly compelling. While even PMI [PMI 2013a] seems to legitimize the practice of managing costs outside the project, it is not a project manager responsibility that should be taken away lightly. Table 8.1 provides several real-world examples of clients’ rationale for not performing cost management and counter project health assessment findings and recommendations.
