ABSTRACT

CdMe2S or C2H6SCd, (methylcadmium methyl sulfide). To obtain this compound, methanethiol (124 mL) was condensed on CdMe2 (0.87 g) and toluene (20 mL) at −196°C (Coates and Lauder 1966). As the mixture warms up to ca. −78°C, CH4 evolution was seen, and CdMe2S was precipitated. The sulde was washed with hexane and with toluene. It turned brown above 150°C and was hydrolyzed moderately rapidly by H2O and vigorously by dilute H2SO4.
