The scope of hospital pharmacy practice is broad, with a remit to ensure the safe, effective and efcient management of all aspects of medicines usage and with a focus on the patient and delivering value for money (Healthcare Commission 2007). In general, a typical hospital pharmacy department will have staff involved in a variety of roles (Box 3.1).
