ABSTRACT

The prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing among women in reproductive age, and the relationship between maternal prepregnancy body mass index (pBMI) and pregnancy outcome deserves further elucidation. In this chapter, the association between pBMI and birth weight, risk of preterm birth, overweight, obesity, blood pressure, and glucose tolerance in children is discussed. The literature was searched for publications no older than 5 years using the terms prepregnancy BMI and pregnancy outcomes.
