ABSTRACT

Research on energy conservation has traditionally been focused on battery-operated devices. However, recent works have also highlighted the positive financial and environmental implications of energy conservation for stand-alone servers and workstations [2,4,7,15]. For example, large organizations often require shutting down workstations, unneeded servers, and cooling systems overnight [20] to reduce energy costs. Setups such as academic institutions and businesses, where users frequently work remotely and at all hours, also employ dynamic energy management.
