ABSTRACT

Hydrostatics, also known as fluid statics, is the science of fluids at rest and is a subfield within fluid mechanics. It embraces the study of the conditions under which fluids are at rest in stable equilibrium. Hydraulics is a topic in applied science and engineering dealing with the mechanical properties of liquids. Hydraulics is used for the generation, control, and transmission of power by the use of pressurized liquids. An important property of water related to the study of hydraulics is the pressure exerted on a column of water. Pressure exerted by water is known as hydrostatic pressure. Torricelli's law, also known as Torricelli's theorem, is a theorem in fluid dynamics relating the speed of fluid flowing out of an opening to the height of fluid above the opening. Velocity head can be described as the velocity of a fluid expressed in terms of the head or static pressure required to produce that velocity.
