ABSTRACT
The preceding chapter has considered in some detail the free-vibration characteristics of undamped and damped multiple degrees of freedom (MDOF) linear systems. In the course of the discussion it has become more and more evident that the system’s natural frequencies (eigenvalues) and mode shapes (eigenvectors) play a fundamental role in both theory and practice. As we proceed further in our investigation, this idea will be conrmed.
