ABSTRACT

We choose to divide the types of injuries to the following categories and discuss each category in greater detail. We begin with the head. The head is separated into the following subcategories: closed head injuries, injuries to the cranium, injuries to the face and jaw bones, and finally injuries to the teeth. Note that we will not cover injuries to the eye because of its very delicate nature. Injuries to the neck are divided into three categories: the cervical spine, the supporting muscles, and the vessels and soft tissues, including the Adam’s apple. The more proper term for the Adam’s apple is the laryngeal prominence, which is more defined in the male than in the female. The thorax or chest cavity section of the body is comprised of the following categories: the thoracic spine, the ribs, shoulder bones, shoulder joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, soft tissues, and internal organs.
