ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Even if stepped spillways have been largely investigated in the last decades, their hydraulic features are not completely clarified. This determines some difficulties during the design phase. The paper reports the results of a large experimental work, carried out at Technical University of Bari, having main attention to the definition of the flow characteristics of nappe and transition flow regimes. The experimental study, besides to a better definition of the flow characteristics in transition regime, focused on two main aspects: the first concerned with the occurrence of the flow regimes, as defined by the device geometry and the flow dynamics, and the second with the evaluation of the energy dissipation rates in nappe flow regime.
