ABSTRACT

It is always risky to skip any DMAIC steps. The success of DMAIC lies with the logical sequence of steps in the methodology. However, it is human nature to want to jump to solutions and quickly make the improvement. If you think you have a solution to the problem at hand, and if the solution is obvious, you can then try to skip some of the DMAIC steps. However, it is important to ask the following questions before you make a decision on whether you need to skip DMAIC steps or not:

• Do I have data to show that the proposed solution to the problem is the best? In other words, what evidence do I have to justify that the solution to the problem at hand is the best?
