ABSTRACT

In many developing nations, the acrylic fiber industry is growing. Growth has been stimulated by the need for acrylic fiber to produce products like sweaters for export. In addition, there is growing home market demand in the developing world. Per capita fiber consumption remains relatively low in these countries today, but empirical studies show that demand for textile products rises sharply with gains in income. This income elasticity of demand for textile fibers promises significant potential for future growth of demand for acrylic fiber in the developing nations of the world if their governments succeed with economic development plans.
