ABSTRACT
The focus of this chapter is introducing students to the historical and current legal context of prostitution and sex work in the United States, highlighting current legislation and contemporary punishments for this crime. This text also provides a contextual description of the sellers and buyers of sex today, highlighting significant issues and debates around violence against women and children, mental health issues and substance use, public health, legalization, globalization, and researching those who sell sex.
