ABSTRACT

This chapter provides information for performing cricothyroidotomy. It begins with a case scenario of a 28-year-old man who is presented with a severe smoke inhalation injury and poor bag ventilation after failed intubation attempts by an emergency medicine physician. The chapter then includes details on indications, contraindications, and information about supplies, positioning and technique. Pearls and pitfalls are also incorporated, providing additional insights and practical advice not always available in other textbooks or articles. Most centers recommend using needle cricothyroidotomy in children less than 12 years of age.
