ABSTRACT

This chapter describes what the main entities of electric flow are, how current is measured, and how electric voltage is measured. It details the units of measure for current and voltage, and shows what an ammeter, an ohmmeter and a voltmeter are. The chapter explains a multimeter and its use and examines the voltage and current in an electric circuit. It explores the use of an ohmmeter to measure the resistance of a resistor or part of a circuit and the use of an ohmmeter for testing capacitors and inductors. The chapter also explains the factors defining electric power and the importance of each factor. It provides calculations for basic circuits and energy consumption of simple devices. Practical understanding of electricity and its usage starts with a good comprehension of the meaning of electric current, electric voltage, and electric power, and the relationships between them.
