ABSTRACT

Common name: Estuarine oyster or giant oyster

Distribution: India, Pakistan

Habitat: Zero-tide level on creeks, estuaries, backwaters, and muddy low tidal areas

Description: Shells are elongated. Anterior region is narrow, and posterior region is broad. While lower valve is slightly concave, heavy, and thick, upper valve is at and less thick. Hinge is long, deeply grooved, and curved to the right or left. Adductor muscle scar is white, roundish or bean-shaped, and dorsally placed. Life span of this species is up to 40 years.
