ABSTRACT
An arrest sets in motion the events of criminal prosecution: booking, arraignment, discovery, plea negotiations, trial, sentencing (if convicted), and possible appeal. e recent arrest rate in the United States was 3888 arrests/100,000 persons, resulting in more than 12,000,000 arrests annually (Federal Bureau of Investigation 2012).
