ABSTRACT

The amount and type of training an auditor should have depends on the situation. A person who will be auditing other companies to determine whether or not they should be ISO 9000 certified requires a different level of training than someone who is one of several internal auditors of an already ISO 9000 certified company. A person doing supplier surveys for a non-ISO 9000 company may have a different background and still perform well. It all depends on who the auditor works for, the purpose of the audit, and the kind of audit being performed. In any situation, the auditor should be a good communicator, listener, and observer and be financially and emotionally neutral to the auditee.
