ABSTRACT
At Argonne National Laboratory, natural and social scientists have been \vorking together to develop a computer-based resource management system for large federal facilities . This system uses a geographic information system (GIS) as its primary means of organizing large amounts of spatial and tabular data for environmental assessment. We believe that GIS technology is having a profound effect on facility managcment and planning in regard to day-to-day facility operations , especially compliance activities .
