ABSTRACT
Solid-state devices are the main building components of any converter. Their function is mainly to mimic the mechanical switches by connecting and disconnecting electric loads, but at very high speeds. Unlike other applications of electronics, power electronic devices are either fully closed or fully open. Operating in any other mode for even a short time can destroy the devices.
