ABSTRACT
Two examples of one-dimensional symmetric systems are considered in turn. These comprise the rotational vibrations of a shaft-disc system and the extensional vibrations of a spring-mass system, the first having an even number of degrees of freedom (n = 6) and the other having an odd number (n = 5). Both configurations belong to the symmetry group C1v, which was described in Chapter 6.
