The Embryonic Stomach (4th week) This is a part of the foregut, and links the pharynx to the primitive midgut. Fusiform in shape and laterally compressed, it has right (R) and left (L) surfaces, dorsal and ventral borders, and lies between the coelomic ducts. Cervical somites are dorsal to it; the heart and pericardium are ventral (Figure 1).
