Intrinsic Intestinal Obstruction The lumen of the gut is normally obliterated (5 weeks). Recanalization of the epithelial plug (8th week) restores patency.
• Defective recanalization causes localized stenosis. An incomplete, cribriform, or iridiform septum causes narrowing of the gut. A complete septum causes intestinal obstruction.
